We started as SME organization and have grown into the industrial space of diesel engine manufacturers. This industry inherently has very high mortality rate with an average span of 15 to 20 years. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, the numbers of manufacturers in SSI sector on all India bases were more than thousand. Today active manufacturers are numbered below hundred. In Kolhapur alone, it has shrunk from 84 to 3 manufacturers only.
In such and industry, to have a R&D department is an expensive exercise and ROI is an elusive distance dream. While most of the industries steer clear from plunging headlong into financial quagmire of maintaining full-fledged R&D, Comet is an exception. R&D is our way of life.
Our founding forefathers were super seers and champion clairvoyants. They stressed upon the importance of having R&D at any cost. It was their bravado and sheer audacity that induced us to fall in love with R&D. Over time it turned into perennial passion for us and in no time it became the core of our corporate culture. Having tasted sweet success after the launch of our indigenous designs, our tenacious focus on R&D became stronger.
We have meticulously woven our work methodology to fully focus on Research & Development for our organic growth. The new models based on our designs were progressively introduced. These newer models were produced with clear objective of containing the production cost by achieving better power to weight ratio. It achieved the significant cost savings. It also enhanced the portability aspect of our products. It lent us a competitive edge and improved margins.
Very early in our growing years, we had realised the necessity and the potential of Research and development. In times when all the existing engines were failing, there was need and demand for a more fuel efficient engine. When the existing product line failed to cater to the needs of the customers, we decided to take it upon us to research and develop newer line of products that would provide a refreshing change, a better choice to our customers.
We started out humbly by putting honest hard work in R&D. Soon we became the first to introduce light weight portable vertical type diesel operated engine with robust steel structure base in the Indian irrigation and agriculture market.
In doing so we did not resort to easy and tempting Reverse Engineering. The dogged determination relentlessly drove our R&D efforts. Our incessant R&D efforts have succeeded in bringing down drastically the weight of our Portable Diesel Engine. Our entirely new range of innovative diesel engines has enabled us to effectively achieve the best weight to power ratio. We were FIRST in India and with FIVE years of serving satisfied customers with these new products we are still the FOREMOST.
Our uniqueness lies in re-engineering under RECPL’s research and development department. Some of our star achievements include;
- Reduced weight of the engine from 145kg to 73kg maintaining the same power ratio
- Improved specific fuel consumption by 40 to 50% as compared to other light weight portable engines operated under petrol and kerosene
- Improving the compactness of the engine, its size and shape to save our natural resources to reduce the costs of fuel and freight.
- In recognition of our R&D work, our Comet Portable Engine was awarded with patent registration mark no 157735
Our R&D does not rest on its oars. Our R&D team is constantly hunting for product innovations as per the trending technology. Currently we are ardently developing an entirely new range of products which will eventually replace the usage of fossil fuel with eco-friendly renewable energy.
